We are a technology and innovation company who build and support semi-autonomous vessels that offer a new prism through which to explore the world and, through the Arksen Foundation, provide a platform that actively contributes to a greater understanding of the oceans, our last great wilderness.

We were inspired to launch Arksen by the stories of some of our greatest Arctic and ocean explorers; Fridtjof Nansen, Jacques Cousteau, Bill Tilman and Thor Heyerdahl who between them changed our perception of what was possible through pioneering new technologies.

Our design philosophy and process is driven by ocean yacht racing performance combined with traditional craftsmanship and production techniques. By harnessing the latest hybrid propulsion technologies, coupled with machine learning to optimise maintenance and autonomous control, our vessels are at the forefront of a revolution within the marine industry and a new approach to long distance offshore sailing.

Our focus is on creating the bedrock for a new wave of sustainable marine adventure that has respect for our earth’s ecology at its core.  Our choice of materials, technologies, systems and processes all start from this simple concept.  Our design process has been developed to minimise environmental impact and optimise recyclability at the end of life – up to 50 years.

The ocean covers 71% of the planet, carries most of our trade, feeds close to a third of humanity, and has the capacity to provide all of the energy for our future needs. Yet we scarcely know anything about what lies beneath it and now find ourselves in a race against time to protect as much as we can before it changes in ways that will have negative consequences for all of us.

If you are fortunate enough to have access to one of our vessels, we think you have a responsibility to use it to help better protect and understand the oceans. That’s why we have set up the Arksen Foundation, a non-profit organisation working to provide project funding and access to the oceans for scientists, researchers, athletes, thought leaders, conservationists, artists and journalists working together to add to the global knowledge about the vitality, beauty and fragility of the ocean ecosystem.

We started this company because we love adventure.  That’s why we also set up the Explorers’ Club, to provide our family of owners and their guests with curated adventures and expeditions, often in the footsteps of the great explorers.  Whether you go for a week or a year, alone or in a small flotilla, the Explorers’ Club aims to provide you with the support, confidence and logistics to enable you to set off on your next great adventure to explore the world.

Ultimately, Arksen is about delivering the very best machines for ocean adventure that money can buy, supporting them and giving our community of owners, scientists and conservationists the confidence to use them to their full potential.  We hope that our vessels will have a profound positive impact on the lives of their owners.

In the words of Thor Heyerdahl “Borders? I have never seen one. But I have heard they exist in the minds of some people.”

To achieve our vision, we have assembled an exceptional team from across the marine, aviation, and technology sectors and formed deep partnerships with world-class naval architects, technologists and shipyards.

In developing Arksen we ensured that all the key partners were located in close proximity of each other and that they supported building in the UK. Our partners are some of the most accomplished and recognised brands in the industry.

Our Inspirations

Everyone needs role models and we are no exception. These intrepid explorers tirelessly worked to prove that their theories were correct, creating new technologies and methods along the way. For each of them the romance of adventure was very much alive, and we wish to follow in their footsteps.
